On the journey to minimise our environmental impacts
Greener ways of working
First steps
The first step in managing your environmental impacts is understanding them. Which is why we conducted a complete review of the way we operate at Radiant and the resources we use.
Environmental policy
We now have a clear environmental policy that everyone in our business adheres to. We invest in our team’s environmental awareness and provide training and advice on how to build green thinking into everyday decision-making and activities.
Energy consumption
As a service business that works primarily through digital media, one of our biggest impacts is energy consumption, which we continuously seek to minimise through the technology and suppliers we use, as well as through clear switching off strategies. In the buildings where we have control over energy supply, we use renewable energy providers.
Business travel
Business travel is another impact area, which we have reduced by enabling remote working by our team and our clients. Public transport is our first choice for local business travel, not taxis, and we never use internal flights for travel across the UK, only trains.
Recycling
We also have strategies in place to reduce our use of paper and plastics, recycling what we do use and minimising the amount we send to landfill. Our cloud-based system and digital automated accounting system both eradicate the need for paper.
Opening up post production to everyone
Equality of opportunity
Equality of opportunity has been a long-standing feature of our employment practices and procedures at Radiant. But we know it takes more than good intentions to bring a wider mix of people into our industry and business.
Diversity, equality and inclusion
We’re tackling diversity, equality and inclusion from several different angles, to make sure anyone who wants to build their career here, can do so, in an environment where they can be themselves, feel welcomed and respected, and can take the career pathway that motivates and interests them.
Diversity and equal access policy
We have an extensive diversity and equal access policy in place, which addresses our recruitment and selection processes, training and promotion, and ongoing monitoring of our performance in line with our policy.
Reaching out to the next generation
We are also reaching out to the next generation and welcoming young people from all backgrounds to apply for our work experience opportunities. Most recently we have collaborated with the Elstree Screen Arts Academy, to offer work experience and advice on how to break into the industry. We have also partnered with The Screen & Film School Manchester on a student networking event and work experience opportunities. We participate in these kinds of activities regularly.
The Elouise Carden Rising Star Award for Post Production
The film and TV industry still has many roles where women are underrepresented and that is particularly stark in post production. The Elouise Carden Rising Star Award for Post Production is an award which recognises outstanding work by early career women working in post production. We sponsored this award in 2024. The winner of the award receives a £2,000 bursary which can be used for training, professional development and equipment to further their career in post.
